A monograph addressing language, race, culture and socioeconomic
class and ways these characteristics impact parent engagement in
the education of their children. It proposes recommendations including:
outreach, hiring bilingual personnel, adult literacy classes, and
a bilingual school newsletter. The parents requested it be converted
to district policy, and in May of 1999 resolution #94-27A11 was
passed by the SFUSD Board of Education to make it disctrict policy.
